What is Social Entrepreneurship?
The ACERE Conference features several themes and this year “Social Entrepreneurship” is one theme in focus and a topic that is becoming a popular player on the entrepreneurial scene – but what is it all about?
Social entrepreneurship seeks to develop solutions to social problems using innovative business models. Pioneers such as Mohammad Yunus, and the Grameen Bank he founded, have demonstrated that it is possible to practically address social problems in a financially sustainable way.
In recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of blogs, industry and research journal articles, research centres and teaching programs which all focus on various aspects of social entrepreneurship. Indeed, there is potential for social entrepreneurship to move from a passing phenomenon into a movement, which can bring about significant and meaningful change for society. However, to adequately progress this potential, a sound research basis is needed.

The ACERE conference provides an outstanding avenue for presenting articles, which explore the various themes of social entrepreneurship. We hope that many academics consider submitting articles to the ACERE 2016 Conference on this important topic, particularly those that progress the current research agendas.
